General Description:

As the Senior International Tax Manager in Brazil, this person will assist the Americas Tax Director in all Brazilian tax planning for Microsoft Corporation, Microsoft Licensing GP, and other Microsoft affiliates. This person will be an integral part of the Microsoft Corporation international tax group, will be involved in a variety of international tax planning and compliance projects, and will report directly to the Americas Tax Director based in Washington D.C.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility for ensuring compliance with Brazilian tax and regulatory law, including corporate income tax and other federal taxes (IPI, Pis and Cofins), the various state and local taxes (ICMS and ISS), and employment taxes. This includes interaction with the local and regional Microsoft finance and legal teams as well as with outside advisors.

Work with the Americas Tax Director on Brazilian tax planning across all lines of business. This includes developing tax-efficient business models for new and existing businesses and will require coordination with the local and regional Microsoft finance, operations, businesses, and legal groups as well as with outside advisors.

Support the Americas Tax Director in tax audits and coordination with local finance team and outside advisors. This will include ensuring that all inter-company transactions meet the local tax law requirements and are properly documented.

Assist the Americas Tax Director on managing engagements with outside advisors and with developing relationships and interacting with tax and regulatory authorities, as appropriate. This will include working with the Microsoft Tax Department towards clarification of tax law regarding software sales, withholding taxes, and taxation of online services.

Provide support to the tax group in analyzing various corporate tax strategies and planning. This includes monitoring
all relevant tax developments and working with the tax team to strategize the impact on Microsoft businesses.

Contacts:

This position has significant contact with senior level managers within Microsoft's finance, operations, businesses, legal and IT groups as well as with local tax authorities and outside consultants.

Qualifications Recommended:

The ideal candidate will have developed a strong knowledge of Brazilian corporate tax laws and regulations as they apply to multinational corporations with at least 8 - 10 years of tax experience, preferably at a Big 4 CPA firm and/or a U.S. multinational corporation. Some general understanding of basic U.S. corporate tax principals and the provisions of income tax treaties is preferred. Preference may be given to a candidate with an advanced degree in taxation or law. Industry experience or working knowledge of the tax issues affecting the software industry including cross-border intellectual property transactions is a plus.

Individual must be a person of integrity who subscribes to high ethical standards, as required by the Microsoft's Business Practice Standards. Position requires strong interpersonal, communications and analytical skills. Candidate must have working knowledge of Excel and Word. Candidate must be proficient in English.

This individual will lead all planning and deployment aspects of multiple customer projects in a particular geographic area with focus on one or more clients. The Delivery Director may be the principal customer liaison and must be able to manage concurrent projects adeptly. The Delivery Director must have the ability to lead a team to perform initial project planning, lead the management of customer relationships during pilot and rollout efforts, define and implement new solutions for customers, assist in radio frequency range/coverage testing, and supervise SSN network installations.

The Delivery Director will also be responsible for managing customer issues and coordinating customer training during the installation timeframe, and prepare hand-off plans to customer at the conclusion of the deployment. The Delivery Director will be called upon to interface with internal customers (Sales, Marketing and Product Development organizations in particular) on product and systems improvements.

Responsibilities:
Ensure SSN success implementing customer technology projects. Interface with customer and contractor installation teams during installation. Work with and support outside contractors and customer installers to ensure project deployment timeliness and quality. Assist in documentation of project objectives, actions and as-completed materials, and all contracted reports as outlined in each project's deliverables list.
Identify additional growth opportunities within existing accounts. Work closely with Product Management, Smart Grid Services, and Sales to develop appropriate technology solution, delivery approach, and sales engagement plan.
Supervise on-going project deployment activities for contracted customers and assist as needed in all phases of deployment of a project. Deployments vary in scope and may include multiple, parallel implementations requiring coordination of various teams from SSN, contractors and the customer, including but not limited to field (RF) engineers, IT staff, supply chain, contracting and finance staff.
Lead project status meetings with customers and SSN management as part of project deployment. Document and resolve project issues and potential technical solutions and escalate recommended actions to the Regional Client Delivery Executive.
Must be knowledgeable of project scope and contract requirements, customer union contracts (if applicable), training programs, local and national rules and local radio frequency regulations related to project activities.

Bachelor of Science in engineering (electrical or computer science preferred). Equivalent experience may be considered.
8+ years direct large-scale, multi-phase project management, preferably for deployment of telecommunications networks (preferably wireless) and/or enterprise-scale software systems. Experience doing either of these for an investor-owned utility is a plus.
Experience leading teams, coordinating matrixed organizations, and driving projects from inception to customer handoff.
Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be able to describe multiple business situations where these skills have been leveraged.
Must possess above average written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and concurrent projects. SSN's networks are in great demand and the PM must be able to coordinate multiple projects in varying degrees of deployment.
Experience in personal computer operations and use of word processing, project management, spreadsheet programs plus experience with off-the-shelf and special-purpose test programs. Microsoft Project is SSN's standard project management application.
Ability to travel as much as 50% of the time, principally in Brazil and South America; some international travel to SSN headquarters in California may be required.
Experience and knowledge of gas, water and electric utility meter reading and related distribution automation technologies is desirable.
Technical training and knowledge of radio frequency equipment used in planning and installing radio network equipment and multiple wired/wireless wide area networks is also desirable.
Experience with GIS, CIS and other utility systems is highly desirable.
Ability to have fun while working hard in a demanding, fluid start-up environment
